I-House

1414 East 59th Street, Chicago, IL 60637

I-House is a beautiful building on the University of Chicago campus. It was built in 1932, and has been the location for many lindy events over the last ten years.

Public Transit

Take any CTA train except the yellow line into downtown Chicago, exit at Jackson Blue line, walk one block east to State (or Jackson Red line from Adams/Wabash walk one block west to State). Take the #6 bus south (bus comes every 6-8 minutes), exiting at 59th St. Walk west to dorchester. note: After 10pm, you will not be able to get off at Adams/Wabash. Instead use library. Walk 1/2 block east to State to catch #6 Jackson Park Express bus. OR From midway airport, take the #55 bus east (comes every 15 minutes), exiting at dorchester. Walk 4 blocks south to 59th, then half a block east. OR Take metra Electric line from michigan Ave and Jackson. Walk east from any of the CTA trains. get off at 59th Street Station and Harper. Walk 2 blocks west. Fare is $2.35.

From I-90/94

I-90/94 East. Take exit 53 for Stevenson Expy/I-55 n toward lake Shore dr. merge onto 1-55 n. Take the exit onto S lake Shore dr/US-41 S. Follow signs for 57th St. Right on E 57th St. left at S Stony Island Ave. Right at E 59th St. lots of street parking available.


The Grand Ballroom

6351 South Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL 60637

The Grand Ballroom is a new venue for the exchange this year. We are excited to be recreating a part of history by dancing in this recently renovated and restored ballroom because it is one of the few remaining ballrooms in the city of Chicago which actually functioned as one during the Jazz Age. Located in the Woodlawn neighborhood, this ballroom was completed in 1923 and was at the heart of the jazz scene in Chicago. It always represented a Cinderella story and you will see the glass slipper motif on the walls and in the 6,500 square foot dance floor.

Public Transit

Take the green line south train towards Cottage grove-East 63rd (noT to Ashland-63rd), exiting at the last stop. Walk one block south on Cottage grove. This train runs every 15-20 minutes. we strongly discourage you from walking around the area alone.

From I-90 w/I-94 W

From downtown take lake Shore drive south. Turn R onto 63rd Street (Hayes drive). Turn l at S maryland Ave. (Corner with mobil Station.) Turn R at 64th Street. The parking lot entrances are on the left side from 64th Street and off the first alley to the right.


Willowbrook Ballroom

8900 South Archer Ave, Willow Springs, IL 60480

Ballroom was built in the 1930s and throughout the years has played host to many great bands from Count Basie and Benny Goodman to Brian Setzer and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. More recently, Willowbrook Ballroom has held a regular Sunday night swing dance for the last 10 years. For the past 4 years, WCLX has also made the Willowbrook Ballroom their location for the Sunday night dance and this year will be no exception. Located in the southwestern suburb of Willow Springs, the Willowbrook Ballroom is another historic venue with a large 6,000 square foot wooden dance floor.

Take I-55 south to St. louis. Exit #279 South lagrange Rd. South on Archer Ave. Willowbrook Ballroom is on the right. large, free parking lot available.

Galaxie

Chicago, 2603 West Barry Ave, Chicago, IL 60618

Galaxie Chicago is a multi-use facility where working artists and students of the arts can interact and inspire each other with their love of the arts. Founded in 2006 by a fellow lindy hopper, WCLX used one of the few barely completed rooms that year for some of the late night dances while the rest of the facility was still under construction!! Now that the beautiful performance space has been completed, WCLX will return this year to use this facility for the late night dances on all three nights.

Public Transit

Take the Brown, Red or Blue line train to Belmont. Take the #77 Belmont bus (west from the Brown or Red line, east from the Blue line ), exiting at Rockwell. Walk two blocks south. This bus comes every 10-30 minutes.

From I-House or Grand Ballroom

Return to n lake Shore drive and take exit, (I-55 S then exit 292) to merge onto I-90/94 W. Take exit 46B for diversey Ave. Right at W diversey Ave. Turn left at n Rockwell St. located at corner of Barry and Rockwell.

From willow Springs on Sunday Evening

north on Archer Ave to I-55 n to Chicago/ Stevenson Expy n. merge onto I-90 W/I-94 W. Take exit 46B for diversey Ave. Right at W diversey Ave. Turn left at W Barry Ave. Located at corner of Barry and Rockwell.


John C. Kluczynski Federal Plaza

230 South Dearborn St, Chicago, IL

(Sunday afternoon dance)

Surrounded by landmark Mies van der Rohe-designed buildings, the large, smooth granite floor of the plaza makes for a comfortable space for dancers to exhibit their skills to the passing tourists.

Public Transit (Strongly recommended)

Take the Blue line or Red line El trains toward the loop to Jackson or all other lines except yellow line to library Station. ($2) or, #1, 7, 126, or 151 buses and get off at dearborn ($2) or, #22, 24, 36, or 62 buses and get off at Adams ($2).

From the north, take I-90/94 East and exit Jackson Street going East. Federal Plaza is at intersection of Jackson and dearborn (between Jackson and Adams) Free limited street parking available throughout downtown.
